Put a QR code on your Instagram posts

Instagram doesn't allow clickable links in posts, but a QR code on the image gives people on another screen a way to reach you. Square and Stories sizes are preset so the result is ready to post.

Step by step

  1. 1

Upload your post image — it will be resized to 1080×1080 (switch to 9:16 for Stories).

  2. 2

Paste the link you want people to reach: your shop, link-in-bio page, or event.

  3. 3

Keep the code large enough — at least 15–20% of the image width — so it scans from a phone screen.

  4. 4

Download as JPG and post it straight from your device.

Tips for best results

  • Who actually scans these?

People viewing your post on a laptop or TV, or someone showing your story to a friend. Mention it in the caption: “Scan the code to shop the look.”

  • Avoid the UI zones

In Stories, the top 250px and bottom 250px are covered by Instagram's interface. Keep the QR code in the middle band.

  • Match your brand

Use a dot style and color that fits your feed, and add your logo in the center — error correction is raised automatically so it still scans.

Frequently asked questions

Can people scan a QR code inside the Instagram app?

Instagram can't scan codes inside its own feed, but anyone viewing your post on another device — or a screenshot — can scan it with their camera app.

What size should my Instagram image be?

1080×1080 for square posts, 1080×1350 for portrait posts, and 1080×1920 for Stories and Reels covers. Square and Stories are one-click presets here; use Custom for 1080×1350.
