Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum size for a QR code?

About 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in) for a short URL scanned up close. Smaller codes may scan on new phones but fail on older ones.

What is the 10:1 rule for QR codes?

A QR code scans reliably from roughly ten times its width. A 5 cm code works from about 50 cm; a 30 cm code from about 3 m.

Does the amount of data change the size?

Yes. More characters mean more, smaller modules for the same printed size. Long URLs and vCards need larger codes than short links.

What DPI should I export at?

300 DPI is standard for print. For large posters and banners viewed from a distance, 150 DPI is usually enough. SVG avoids the question entirely by scaling infinitely.
